Spiral Yin Yoga

Next up... is our Spiral Yin Yoga Session starting Tuesday April 2nd and running weekly until May 7th.

Spring is a time where we emerge from the stillness and rest of the Water Element / Winter season, with a powerful erupting energy that is expressed in nature through the spiral shape, the cracking open of eggs, the birthing of new life, sprouting shoots, germinating seeds, and the upward growth of stems and tree trunks. In human beings, when we are in alignment, this energy can be felt as a rush of energy, fresh bursts of creativity, a conviction in justice, and the developing of a clear vision and direction for how to create something or move in a new direction, as well as a flexible, approach to life which is reflected in our bodies. When this “Wood energy” is blocked through emotional repression, ongoing, unrelenting stress, resistance, unhealthy eating, drinking too much alcohol, or lack of opportunities for moving and creative expression, this expansive and flowing spring energy can be felt in the body in the form of chronic tension, stress and pain, emotional disregulation, menstrual, digestive and sleep disturbances.

This spring, join senior yoga teacher, alchemist and artist Julie Gladstone as we work with the powerful creative energy of the spring season to help us come into alignment with the gifts of the Wood Element. Each week we will meet on zoom and move through one hour of guided meditation, long held yin yoga poses to release and move blocked energy in the body, increase flexibility and mobility in our connective tissue and joints, and support the health of the Liver and Gallbladder. We will be moving the body in spiral shapes through a series rich in twists, that cleanse and release chronic holding patterns in the body. Our series will help us to release tension in our shoulders and hips, while encouraging the flow of energy through the spine. You will also learn a few powerful essential oil and acupoint combinations that you can use anytime as a simple stress relieving tool to help move stuck emotions, reset your nervous system and tap into your own intuition and natural creativity.

Join us for a 6-week yin yoga series is we transition from Spring into Summer. Discover the power in creating a weekly space devoted to self care. Slow down, breathe, stretch and discover practices aligned with the season and the lunar cycle. Essential oils, acupoints, yin yoga, mindfulness meditation and guided visualizations help reset, realign and reconnect with our innate ability to heal. Julie Gladstone is a senior yoga teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience. 6-WEEK SERIES: September 18th - October 23, 2023

This fall, you are invited to join our online circle for alchemical yoga. These days with the constant barrage of news, social media and device addiction, our nervous systems are being triggered and activated, and we live increasingly in states of fight, flight and freeze, in which we feel disconnected and afraid. I believe it is more important than ever that we intentionally carve out circles and spaces to pause, to feel, to process our experiences and to honour our embodiment through movement, breath and nurturing attention. The healing circle is more than just a yoga class, it is a space where we can begin to heal our nervous systems, metabolize emotions, listen to the voice of our hearts, tune into the rhythms of nature and develop trust in our own bodies and the guiding star of our intuition. Doing so in community is powerful. Each class is a healing journey using yin yoga, essential oils, acu-points, hatha yoga, pranayama, chakra yoga, inner sensing, guided meditations and healing rituals. This is a practice guided by the waxing and waning of the moon; that honours the natural ebbs and flows of the our energy, creative process and our body’s innate wisdom and ability to heal. By carving out healing space on a weekly basis, we can empower ourselves and live aligned and inspired lives.

Our first back to school Healing Circle will focus on the Earth Element; healing, strengthening and balancing all of the ways in which we digest and integrate food, ideas and emotions into our being. We will focus on themes of Harvest, gratitude and embodiment.

All offerings are on a sliding scale basis and can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home via zoom or by video recordings.

This six week series is offered on a sliding scale basis. The idea is that no one should feel dissuaded from practice due to financial constraints. Some sessions you may be able to comfortably afford a higher rate, and other times, it may be more nurturing to receive the teachings at a lower rate. Each class is designed to be a form of deep self care and we all deserve that. Using the honour system, the sliding scale balances out in the end.

The recommended range is $66 - $198 - (At the low end, this adds up to $11 per class, at the high end it is $33 a class)

Registration grants you unlimited access to online video resources for 1 year.

Light & Blossom Yoga Series

As the Summer Solstice approaches, join Living Maps for an 8 week summer yoga series designed around the energetics of the season; blossoming, light filled days, opening, expansion, flying, connection and infinite possibilities. Each week we will meet on Zoom at 6:30pm EST for an hour of yin yoga, hatha yoga, chakra meditation, guided visualizations and essential oil with acupoint combinations with a focus on the Fire Element and the corresponding Heart Meridians and Chakra system. If you are unable to join for the live class, each week will be recorded and shared via video link. The classes are intuitive and restorative, designed to increase connection to our own inner guidance system, to the wisdom of the natural world, to the astrological and lunar cycle, to our own inherent creativity and our ability to connect with others through vulnerability and appropriate boundaries. Most importantly, this practice helps us get back into our bodies, breathing and releasing the stress and tension of the week, reconnecting to our own inner light and our ability to blossom.

Spring Equinox Yoga Journey

Welcome Spring!

Our next 6-week online yoga series starts as we celebrate the arrival of the Spring Equinox! This is a time on the wheel of the year where there is a balance of light and dark, yin and yang, inward turning, dreaming and contemplative energy, balanced with the growth and expansion of new life. While the seeds begin the process of germination and the caterpillars gestate in their cocoons, in these early days of spring, our practice will focus on nourishing the most yin parts of our body as well: the joints, tendons and ligaments while also preparing the body for growth and expansion by cleansing out winter stagnation.

With a focus on twisting, cleansing the liver through meridian stretches essential oils, acupoints, breathwork and guided visualizations, our practice aims to re-invigorate and open the body after a season of contraction and rest.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the spring season is associated with the Wood element, and with the Liver and Gallbladder organs; they regulate vision, menstrual health, our emotional balance, sleep, digestion, energy and sleep and most importantly our ability to be both strong and flexible and to be able to go with the flow of life.

The spirit of the wood element is the Hun: The Free and Easy Wanderer, who travels between the eyes, the liver and the dream realm, to help us connect to a vision for our lives and dreams, putting together plans and blueprints, and implementing the architecture and infrastructure to achieve these dreams in the material realm.

Deep Release Yoga | Metal Element

This fall, join Julie for an inner journey using yin yoga, ambient music, essential oils and guided meditations into the labyrinthine crystal caves of the body as we explore the Metal Element and the season of release. This weekly practice is designed for replenishment, emotional release, grounding and cultivating sacred inner space.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this time of year where the trees change colours and drop their leaves to the ground, it is said that we are transitioning into the season where the Metal Element is dominant: a time where we release what isn't essential, and we come close to identifying what is most precious and valuable. The Metal Element is the mineral realm, the crystalline structures that make up our connective tissue, and the minerals that are released back into the soil during the decomposition process, to nourish the next cycle. We connect with grief and we also connect with what is most precious about life.

Colour Magic: Yoga and the Fire Element

Hello! You are invited to join me for our upcoming 6-week yin yoga series as we move into summer, the season of blossoming, blooming and the Fire Element! Each Monday evening I will teach a live class on Zoom at 6pm EST. Each Tuesday I send out a video recording of our class along with info about acupoints, essential oils, seasonal correspondences and suggested meditations and explorations in nature. You are welcoming to join synchronously or asynchronously.

Each class we will move through ways in which we can cultivate energy, openness, joy, connection and healthy energetic boundaries with Yin yoga, mindfulness, loving kindness, chakra visualization, essential oils, acupoints and wisdom from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Taoist Alchemy. Using the power of illumination and visualization, we will explore and cultivate our inner blossoming by playing with the Chakra system, (our energy body) while also observing the energetics of the natural, elemental world.

Breaking the Ice: Spring Yoga and the Wood Element

A six-week yoga series to transition our body, mind and spirit into the spring season with flow.

This session we will work with a gentle flowing series of twists, hip openers and shoulder releases, \ to bring the liver and gallbladder meridians associated with the Wood Element into balance. We will work with a few key essential oils for the Wood element, as well as guided meditations and an introduction the Hun, the spirit aspect of the Wood Element known as the Free and Easy Wanderer.

Though the official arrival of the spring season on March 21st arrived with the Spring Equinox, this time of year in the northern hemisphere is often characterized by a choppy quality as we fluctuate between winter’s holding pattern and springs great rushing energy.

This upward rushing spring energy is related to the Wood Element in Traditional Chinese, and likes to be in a state of unimpeded flow. The wood element is also related to the flow of energy in our own bodies. When this flow of energy is blocked or constrained through stress, anger, unexpressed, unprocessed emotions, and lack of physical exercise, the flow of Wood energy in the body can result in mood swings, frustration, physical pain, headaches, PMS, depression and poor sleep quality.

When wood energy is flowing, we are connected to our dreams and creativity, we can start to put plans into action, we feel inspired, energized , we can express our emotions and ideas freely and we can stand up for justice and the things that matter.

6 week series: March 28 - May 2nd, 2022

Nurture Yoga: Earth Element & Autumn Equinox Session

Join us for a 6 week yoga session working with the nurturing energy of the Earth Element and the transition to the autumn season. Our practices will include learning yoga postures, meridian stretches and acupoints in combination with essential oils to harness the alchemical potential of the season. With the Earth element we will be considering themes related to Harvest, gardening, our relationship with food and with being able to give and receive nurturing. The energetic organs related to the Earth element are the Spleen and Stomach and we will be exploring the realm of digestion, and our ability to transform food energy into the manifestation of our visions and dreams in the physical realm through dedication and consistency. The emotions related to the Earth element in Traditional Chinese Medicine are about our mind, our relationship with worry and our ability to give and receive empathy and sympathy with healthy boundaries. In this session we will practice cultivating a nurturing relationship with our bodies and explore techniques to reduce worry and increase presence.

This is a 6 week session delivered through weekly live Zoom classes. The classes will be recorded and sent to you via private link. If you cannot attend live classes, you can register for asynchronous videos. You will have unlimited 1 year access to all recorded yoga classes.
